چکیده

background the rate of mother-to-infant hepatitis c virus (hcv) transmission is relatively low, however, this mode of infection is the most important route for childhood hcv involvement. the chances of transmission are increased by the level of maternal hcv viraemia and maternal human immunodeficiency virus (hiv) co infection. objectives the objective of the present study was to determine the presence of hcv infection in orphan newborns of infected mothers. patients and methods a total of 29, two to seven month old, orphan infants were included in the study. the tests performed consisted of the detection of; anti-hcv and anti-hiv antibodies, hcv rna in the plasma and peripheral blood mononuclear cells by real-time polymerase chain reaction (pcr), and finally the detection of hcv core antigens (hcv core ag). results anti-hcv antibodies were detectable in all of the infants. however hcv rna was undetectable in both plasma and peripheral blood mononuclear cells (pbmcs) and there were also no anti-hiv 1/2 antibodies present in the infants. conclusions few studies have addressed the issue of mother-to-infant transmission of hcv among orphan newborns. according to the present study, carried out with orphan babies, the use of a hcv core ag assay and evaluation of hcv rna in pbmcs together with hcv rna real-time pcr on the plasma, could benefit the prediction or exclusion of hcv transmission from mother to child.

The Absence of Hepatitis C Virus Infection Among Patients with Hepatitis B virus in Mashhad, Iran

Background and Aims: Many studies have provided evidence for the role of hepatitis B and C viruses in the development of liver cancer. Although the routine treatment is available for both conditions, no definite guideline is available to treat patients dually infected with HBV and HCV. This study was performed to determine the frequency of HBV/HCV-coinfection in Mashhad, North-East of Iran. Mat...

Predicting factors of present hepatitis C virus infection among patients positive for the hepatitis C virus antibody

BACKGROUND/AIMS To identify the predicting factors of present hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection among patients with positivity for antibodies to HCV (anti-HCV). METHODS We analyzed patients who showed positive enzyme immunoassay (EIA) results and performed an HCV RNA test as a confirmatory test at Kyung Hee University Hospital at Gangdong from June 2006 to July 2012. Hepatitis C virus infection and genotypes in blood donors

Abstract: Genotyping of the hepatitis C virus (HCV) is important for designing therapeutic strategies and regional specific diagnostic assays. The aim of this study was to identify the HCV genotypes in HCV infected blood donors. This is the first report on HCV genotypes in blood donors in Iran. In this cross-sectional study, 103 blood donors with hepatitis C were investigated for HCV genotype...

Study of anticardiolipin antibody in hepatitis C virus-positive patients

Several antibodies, including anticardiolipin antibodies (ACA), have been detected among chronically infected hepatitis C virus (HCV) patients. The present work aimed at ascertaining the clinical significance of ACA levels among HCV infection associated with two commonly encountered diseases, thrombocytopenia and arteriovenous-shunt malfunction. Six groups were studied, 11 HCV-positive thromboc...

Significance of Hepatitis B Core Antibody as the Only Marker of Hepatitis B Virus Infection in High Risk Patients

Background and Objective: Presence of hepatitis B core antibody (anti-HBc) in the absence of hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) and hepatitis B surface antibody (anti-HBs) is defined, as isolated anti-HBc. little is known about the clinical significance of the isolated anti-HBc in hepatitis B virus (HBV) infections. The aim of this study was to assess the significance of anti-HBc as the onl...
